Thoughts on Romney’s “No Support Position” On Common Core State Standards
09/26/2012
In Education Week blogger, Allison Klein’s post today, she
reported that presidential candidate Mitt Romney does not believe that the
federal government should support the implementation of Common Core State
Standards. He states that it is the responsibility of individual states to allocate
funding for the implementation of these standards. In theory this seems like a fine

Million Dollar Ad
09/24/2012
A 1 million dollar ad campaign featuring Mayor Emmanuel's spin on the Chicago Teacher's strike was paid for by Education Reform Now, an organization that supports charter schools as the answer for school reform. As a friend said, "if Education Reform Now is so interested in providing better public education, why did they just spend a million dollars on ads for Mayor Emmanuel?"

This is one of several reasons why Chicago teachers went on strike.

Hey Mayor! Do your homework if you want to help kids rather than succumb to the organization that paid for your commercial last week about what you accomplished for Chicago schools.
Taking a Stand
09/23/2012
I have decided that I need to take a stand. I am tired of witnessing wonderful schools, children and teachers being victimized by standardized tests. In the past month, I have personally witnessed three different schools victimized by testing. Politicians who don't send their children to public schools and millionaires who don't send their children to public school rarely understand the complexities of schools. They just want numbers on a spread sheet, like a supply and demand model, to argue the futures of children.
Stay tuned... I am just about finished with my latest book project and then I am writing, writing, and writing about what I see and know about the damage of standardized testing across the US.
